I can’t in good faith call these Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings to the rest of the world even though that’s what I call them in my head. You know why? Because no cheese was harmed in the making of these wings. This recipe is a Whole30 compliant substitute for garlic parm chicken wings. Spoiler alert: they’re made with nutritional yeast, which as you may know lends a cheesy flavor to some dishes but is also vegan. Not that a vegan ingredient matters when you’re using it to coat a chicken wing, but you get me. The nutritional yeast serves as an excellent breading component while also lending a cheesy flavor. It’s not exactly a Parmesan cheese flavor, but it’s not far off either.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we eat wings a LOT around here. A few months back we got the wings for life deal with Butcher Box and I do not regret that purchase. So now we eat wings for dinner three nights a month and life is great. And since I use my air fryer constantly, nights that we have wings for dinner means that I can get dinner on the table in no time flat. I maintain that the air fryer is the best kitchen appliance since…ever? I can’t believe I used to spend over an hour making chicken wings in the oven. And now I can have dinner on the table in a third of the time. Insanity.

Do you have any plans for travel this year that you’re still planning on doing? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. 100% of the things I was looking forward to in 2020 have been cancelled. My high school BFF’s wedding in New Orleans. The trip to Ireland and Scotland that Mike and I were supposed to take next month. My work trip to London. I loathe 2020 with all of my being. So since I’ll be having a lot more time off than I was planning to, I’m going to use it the only way I know how…HIKE! I am pretty excited about checking off some more 4000 footers in the Whites. And I recently heard about this hike in the Catskills called Devil’s Path that I’ve added to our list for 2020 as well. What are you still looking forward to this year? Something, I hope? Tell me tell me!

Crispy Garlic Chicken Wings

A Whole30 take on garlic Parmesan chicken wings, featuring nutritional yeast for the breading and an air fryer to make them crispy!
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings: 2 people
Course: Appetizer, Snack
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 10-12 chicken wings
  • 1 + ½ tbsp nutritional yeast
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • ¾ tsp garlic powder

Equipment

  • Air fryer

Method

  1. Lay the chicken wings out on a flat surface and pat dry.
  2. Combine the nutritional yeast, sea salt, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Use a spoon to distribute half of the mixture evenly over the chicken wings. Using tongs, transfer the chicken wings to the insert of your air fryer, seasoning side down, leaving space in between each chicken wing. Distribute the rest of the seasoning over the chicken wings.
  3. Air fry at 400° F for 12 minutes until browned and crisped all over. Serve hot with dipping sauces of choice (I like Ranch Dressing) and enjoy!
