Sweet and Crispy Brussels Sprouts
Mike and I live about halfway between Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA which puts us a short commute away from a lot of fantastic restaurants. Our first date was at a small family owned Mexican restaurant called Bueno y Sano. My favorite BBQ restaurant in the whole world is in Springfield at a restaurant called Theodore’s. The point of this story is that we frequent these local establishments and sometimes they are a source of inspiration for me in the kitchen.

This past Friday night we went out to dinner with Mike’s parents to celebrate his father’s birthday. We went to a German restaurant called The Student Prince. I had only been there once before, also with Mike, over the summer. We took the motorcycle there on a Monday night and ate ourselves silly. They happened to have a prix fixe menu that night that caught our eye, so that’s what we both ordered. I LOVED everything and I couldn’t wait to go back.
This time around I was lucky enough to try their Crispy Brussels Sprouts. I’m not one to declare my love for a side dish unless that side dish involves potatoes, but these Brussels sprouts were out of this world delicious. As soon as I took a bite I immediately couldn’t wait to come home and make them for the blog. And that’s exactly what I did!

These Brussels sprouts make a fantastic special occasion side dish, and they are super simple and done in 20 minutes! We never go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day or any day surrounding that day because restaurants are crazy busy and overpriced and honestly I make better food at home. These Brussels sprouts are a contender for this year’s Valentine’s Day meal at my house!

Do you like to stay in or go out on Valentine’s Day? If you’re a V Day homebody like me, what’s on your menu for this year? Tell me everything!
